This university project is based on the Snake story by Uncle Greg Simms, an elder and knowledge holder as a Gadi, Darug, Gundungurra, and Yuin man. This story demonstrates the connection Aboriginal people have with their totem animals. Uncle Greg's Snake story resonated with me, reminding me of how I associate orchids with my grandfather. In this comic, I wanted to explore how when someone passes away, they leave behind memories through the objects that were once a part of their life. For the people left behind, these objects embody their loved one and become intertwined with their identity.
